Twilight
Twilight was formed in Berlin in 1982 by musicians who had got to know each other at
various sessions. After several changes of line-up the present trio emerged in the later
half of 1983, and in 1984 Twilight was one of the winners of the “NDR Hörfest” (broadcasting
festival) in Hamburg. More touring in West Germany and Europe followed.
The first major appearance in Britain was in 1985 at the Edinburgh Folk Festival, where
they were unanimously voted top act in the Folk Group Competition. What impressed
the jury, and since then many other audiences, was Twilight’s ability to play
innovative, exciting folk music on purely acoustic instruments. People who have
heard the group realize the name “Twilight” did not come about the chance, but
rather symbolizes a synthesis of contemporary and traditional music influences (by no
means only from the Folk sector).
